The Residents – retrospektiva.

Jedním z nejvýznamnějších a ve výstavní historii Galerie Caesar jeden z nejnáročnějších a nejoriginálnějších projektů je několik let připravovaná retrospektiva The Residents (San Francisco), která naváže na již uskutečněnou video-retrospektivu, která proběhla v roce 2006 v  Museum of Modern Art v New Yorku. Ve spolupráci s galerií Mona Lisa bude představena tvorba americké figurativní malířky a sochařky Leigh Barbier, která více než 15 let spolupracuje s The Residents.

The Residents (San Francisco) jsou ve své oblasti světově nejdůležitější a nejrespektovanější anonymní hudebně-výtvarné seskupení s přesahy do výtvarného umění, performance, divadla a videoartu. The Residents jsou řazeni mezi průkopníky videoartu. The Residents se proslavili svým experimentálním, a zejména inovátorským přístupem na svých jedinečných deskách, ale i pokusy s novými medii.
The Residents patří ke světové špičce, přestože po celou dobu své existence neučinili jediný kompromis směrem ke komerční sféře. Jsou jednou z nejuznávanějších formací pohybující se na pomezí klasické hudby, avantgardy a moderního divadelního umění. Jejich ojedinělá živá vystoupení jsou směsicí hudebního a vizuálního vjemu, performance. 

Práce The Residents jsou součástí sbírek např. Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) v New Yorku a Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.

Tvorba The Residents byla představena na výstavách v The Museum of Contemporary Art - Los Angeles; The Kitchen - New York; Museum of Modern Art - New York; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts - San Francisco a Berkeley Art Museum.

Od počátku sedmdesátých let The Residents, tyto anti-hvězdy, sice žijí na periférii obecného povědomí, ale postupně se stávají nejdůležitějším seskupením a vzorem podobně smýšlejících umělců. Celá jejich tvorba je založena na principu tajuplnosti a důsledné anonymitě. The Residents skrývají svou totožnost pod různé masky, nejznámější je maska v podobě oční bulvy. Přesah do divadla je možno ilustrovat nejen užíváním masek, ale také loutek a kostýmů, které používají v rámci svých vystoupení. Na tvorbu The Residents reaguje také  řada umělců z oblasti videa. Ve své tvorbě se jim vždy dařilo využívat všechny nové média. Vždy o krok napřed pracovali s novými technologiemi. Již v roce 1994 ve spolupráci The Voyager Company je vydán první interaktivní CD-ROM Freak Show, který vychází z jejich stejnojmenného alba a komixového románu. 

V rámci výstavy proběhne retrospektiva jejich filmů a videoklipů (Videos by The Residents 1975–2010),  navíc bude rozšířena o řadu originálních artefaktů, grafik, návrhů obalů desek, koncertních scén, originálních fotografií, komixů, masek a kostýmů. Součástí bude instalace artefaktů z vystoupení.

The Residents (San Francisco) retrospective exhibition is one of the most significant and at the same time one of the most difficult and original projects that the Caesar Gallery has ever organized. The project has been in preparation for several years now and it is following an already finished video-retrospective that took place in 2006 at Museum of Modern Art in New York. In cooperation with the Mona Lisa Gallery,  there will be presented work of an American figurative paintress and sculptress Leigh Barbier who´s been cooperating with The Residents for more than 15 years.

The Residents are, in their area of activity, most important and most respected anonymous music-art group overlapping to fine arts, performance, theater and video art. The Residents are ranked among the pioneers of video art and they became famous by their experimental, and most of all innovative, approach to their unique music records and experiments with new media.

The Residents belong to world´s top groups, in spite of never making any compromise towards commercial sphere. They are one of the most reputable formations dealing with classical music, avant-garde and modern theater art. Their unique live shows are mix of musical and visual sensation and performance.

Works of The Residents are represented in collections of e.g. Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.

Their works were presented e.g. at exhibitions at The Museum of Contemporary Art - Los Angeles; The Kitchen - New York; Museum of Modern Art - New York; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts - San Francisco a Berkeley Art Museum.

  Since the early 70s, The Residents, the anti-stars, have been living on the edge of common awareness, but they have become most important group and model for like-minded artists. All their word is based on the principle of strict anonymity and mystique. The Residents conceal their identity under various masks - one of the most known is a famous mask in the form of the eyeball. Overlap in the theater can be illustrated not only by the use of masks, but by puppets and costumes they use in their performances as well.

Video artists also react to creation of The Residents. They have been able to use all possible media while creating their works. They have been always one step ahead when it came to usage of new technologies. In cooperation with The Voyager Company in 1994, they published very first interactive CD-ROM called Freak Show, which was based on the album and comics novel by the same name.

Within the frame of the exhibition, a movie and video-clips retrospective will take place (Videos by The Residents 1975–2010). The exhibition will be complemented by several original artifacts, graphic works, album concept art, performance scenes, original photos, comics, masks and costumes. Installation of performance artifacts will also be placed. This will be the first time that The Residents´ creations and works are presented in Europe in such a large scale.

Od ledna 2010 je ve spolupráci s The Residents a Cryptic Corporation vyhlášena mezinárodní soutěž, kdy na minutový hudební námět The Residents umělci z celého světa reagovat svým vlastním videoklipem. 
K účasti na soutěži byla vyzvána celá řada konkrétních umělců z ČR i zahraničí, umělecké školy i široká veřejnost. Nejlepší práce budou součástí výstavy. 
Vyhodnocení soutěže : Odborná porota ze zaslaných videosnímků vyhodnotí a vybere 60 videosnímků, které budou prezentovány na výstavě s uvedením jména autora(ů). Dále určí první desítku nejlepších videosnímků a ocení 1.-3. místo. Slavnostní předání cen za účasti reprezentace města, kraje a sponzorů proběhne v Moravském divadle v Olomouci před koncertem.

Ve spolupráci s galerií Mona Lisa bude představena tvorba americké figurativní malířky a sochařky  Leigh Barbier, která více jak 15 let spolupracuje s The Residents.
Vedle své malířské, kreslířské a sochařské práce se Leigh Barbier podílí na digitálních modelech a simulacích pro  filmový průmysl. Po studiích na San Francisco State University Leigh Barbier vytvářela modely pro muzea a výstavní exponáty pro California Academy of Sciences, Oakland Museum and Tilden Nature Center. Spolupráce s filmovým  průmyslem  započala prací na James and the Giant Peach (James a obří broskev), což vedlo k možnosti   pracovat jako tvůrce modelů a soch v Industrial Light and Magic a Tippet Studios. 
Od práce na modelech se její kariéra zaměřila na digitální malby a speciální efekty. 

Mezi některé její filmové   úspěchy patří: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones / Klony útočí (2002); Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Blafl Pearl / Piráti z Karibiku: Prokletí Černé perly (2003); Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest / Truhla mrtvého muže (2006); Transformers (2007); Evan Almighty (2007); Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull / Indiana Jones a Království křišťálové lebky (2008); Star Trek (2009) a Avatar (2009). 
Leigh Barbier vytvořila řadu uměleckých děl a návrhů obalů desek The Residents a jako umělkyně aktivně  vystavuje své kresby, malby a sochy v galeriích po celých Spojených státech.

Výstava je uspořádána ve spolupráci s Cryptic Corporation San Francisco.

Leigh Barbier has created many of the works of art and album covers for The Residents. As an artist, she actively exhibits her drawings, paintings and sculptures in galleries all around the Unites States.

The exhibition is organized in cooperetion with Cryptic Corporation, San Francisco.
